He set another parable before them, saying, The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches.
I want to tell you something before you read another word: you do not have to catch up. Whatever you meant to do last year, last Lent, last January, it is not a debt. Today we are starting with one seed.
Jesus picked the mustard seed on purpose. People in his day used it as a figure of speech for the smallest thing you could imagine. And yet he says the kingdom of God starts exactly there, with something you could lose in the lint of your pocket.
That is your five minutes this morning. Small, real, and enough. The coffee is getting cold and someone is about to need you. That is fine. Plant the seed anyway.
